The Story
It is great to explore Africa, visit Mara River and to experience how Maasai people express their love to their children. Thank you for this beautiful book’s written by Barbara M. Joose & illustrated by Barbara Lavallee.

Barbara M. Joosse
Barbara M. Joose is a Member Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Council for Wisconsin Writers and won several awards for her creative works:

Barbara Lavallee
Barbara Lavallee is a Member Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She grew up in Wisconsin and received a degree in art from Illinois Wesleyan Univ. After teaching art in Arizona on a Navajo Indian Reservation, she took a position at Mount Edgecumbe Native School in Sitka, Alaska in 1970. Now living in Anchorage, Barbara is a prolific painter, with many originals reproduced into limited edition prints. In addition, she has become nationally known as an illustrator of children’s books.
Barbara Lavallee is known for her happy people working, playing, and living with smiles on their faces. Her watercolors portray whimsical, stylized characters in vibrant colors reflecting her interest in people. She can’t imagine her life without painting. “I want people to have fun. If people look and smile, then I feel the art is a success.”
She won several awards for her creative works in illustrating books:
- Tomas Rivera Mexican-American Children’s Book Award nomination, 1996, for Uno, Dos, Tres = One, Two, Three, by Pat Mora
- Golden Kite Award, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and National Association of Parenting Publications Award for Mama, Do You Love Me?, by Barbara M. Joosse
- ABC Children’s Booksellers Choice Award, 1992 for Mama, Do You Love Me?, by Barbara M. Joosse
- Charlotte Zolotow Award Highly Commended designation, 2003, for All You Need Is a Snowman by Alice Schertle

Both Barbara M. Joosse and Barbara Lavallee worked together for these 2 books:

Both books are illustrated beautifully and told us about our parents’ everlasting love. Mama, Do You Love Me? set in captivating Artic culture meanwhile Papa, Do You Love Me? hooked us with Africa’s Maasai People.
Their Legacy
Both of them still working on writing and illustrating children’s book. Moreover, Barbara Lavallee currently living in Alaska and opens an art gallery in the city.
